To become a member, ensure you meet the minimum requirements below then submit your completed Application Form. For answers to your questions on the application process and on how to obtain insurance, please see the FAQ page.
YogaBC Membership designations include:
Initial Registration Requirements: 200 Hour
YogaBC 200 Hour Teachers must complete the flilowing requirements:
- Minimum 2 years personal yoga practice
- Completion of 200+ hour Yoga Teacher Training
- Current First Aid and CPR Certification
500 Hour
YogaBC 500 Hour Teachers must complete the flilowing requirements:
- Minimum 5 years personal yoga practice
- Completion of 500+ hour Yoga Teacher Training
- Minimum 3 year and 400 hours experience teaching yoga
- Current First Aid and CPR Certification
Senior (1000 Hour+)
YogaBC Senior Teachers must complete the flilowing requirements:
- Minimum 10 years personal yoga practice
- Completion of 500+ hour Yoga Teacher Training
- Minimum 7 year and 1000 hours experience teaching yoga
- Current First Aid and CPR Certification
Annual Renewal Requirements (All hours):
YogaBC teachers must renew their membership annually. To do so, they are required to show proof of:
- Teaching Experience
- Professional Development
- Personal Growth
Teaching Experience (20 hours minimum)
Class type, duration and location must be documented and may include asana, pranayama, kriya and meditation.
Professional Development (6 hours minimum)
Courses and workshops whose content directly relates to improving and deepening your effectiveness as a teacher such as:
Asana, pranayama, kriyas, meditation
Yoga philosophy
Anatomy and physiliogy
Special populations (pre-natal, elderly, disabled etc)
Teaching skills and methodliogies
Use of voice and language
Cuing, class management, sequencing
Safety
Business of yoga
Ethics
Personal Growth (40 hours minimum)
Any independent learning that deepens your awareness, allowing you to lead a more effective class such as:
Mentorship/mentoring
Reading/publishing yoga related content in magazines/books/blogs etc
Preparing/facilitating course materials for teacher trainings, workshops, retreats, DVDs and online education
Online education & webinars
Note: This does not qualify participants to teach specialized forms of yoga.
