Q: What is it?
YogaBC has partnered with Benefits By Design, Inc. to offer Extended Health and Dental plans to our members.
Q: Who can apply?
In the first year, 2008/2009, only studios with 3 or more participants may join the plan. Once our total participation reaches a volume size, we will be able to include individual teachers. All participants must be members in good standing with YABC. Administrative and support staff may also be included in the group coverage.
Q: What is the process to apply?
To apply, contact Henry Chen at
for a quote. He will meet with you to discuss what kinds of coverage will work for your group (each studio may customize their own coverage, selecting more or less). A census will be sent to your participants to complete for a quote to be offered.
Q: Why did you choose this provider?
The people involved in this process understand community, are locally based in BC, and many people connected to the provider also practice yoga, so we felt there was a good relationship to serve our members. The specific products offered are also the most competitive rates we found in our search of many potential providers. The 'customizing' nature of this plan helps to remove pieces that other providers require as a whole package, and minimize costs while providing quality service.
Q: Do all teachers need to sign up if a studio wants to join?
Yes. It is standard for all 'employees' or contractors to join the extended health plan, and may opt out if they are covered by another provider.
